Once Upon a Time in Malaysia

"Keluarga Malaysia" and the "Mat Salleh".

Portugis colonised Malaka for 130 years.

Dutch colonised Malaka and Johor for 183 years.

 British came 117 years,Japan 4 years

British again 12 years.

Our neighbour, well they are also being invaded and colonised by the orang putih. The Dutch invade Indonesia for 200 years and Spain invade Philipine for 300 years then America for 48 years.

Where were we,during that time, maybe our anchestors are busy with being a pirates of Borneo, hunting boar in "pedalaman" and a little bit of head huntings.

From my search, the orang putih also knocks at our door. Their nose have great smell, they know where the natives are.

It's just that, we don't fought the orang putih like in Semenanjung,Indonesia and Philippine with blood.

We,our anchestors, seems don't really care, maybe we welcome them.

It's starts with 1865, the United States Consul to Brunei, Charles Lee Moses, obtained a 10-year lease for the territory of North Borneo from the Brunei Sultanate.

However, the post-Civil War United States wanted nothing to do with Asian colonies, so Moses sold his rights to the Hong Kong-based American Trading Company of Borneo owned by Joseph William Torrey, Thomas Bradley Harris, Tat Cheong and possibly other Chinese merchants.

Torrey began a settlement at the Kimanis River mouth, which he named Ellena. But the project failed. When attempts at financial backing from the US government were futile the project abandoned.

1875, Torrey managed to sell his rights to the Consul of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in Hong Kong, Baron Gustav von Overbeck. Von Overbeck managed to get a 10-year renewal of the lease from the Temenggong of Brunei, and a similar treaty from the Sultan of Sulu on 22 January 1878

1880 - Overbeck found financial backing from the Dent brothers (Alfred and Edward), but was unable to interest his government in the territory. After futile efforts to sell the territory to Italy for use as a penal colony, Von Overbeck withdrew in 1880, leaving Alfred Dent in control. Dent was supported by Sir Rutherford Alcock, and Admiral Sir Harry Keppel.

1881- In July 1881, the Dent brothers formed the British North Borneo Provisional Association Ltd and obtained an official Royal Charter on November 1. In May 1882, the sovereign North Borneo Chartered Company replaced the Provisional Association, with Sir Rutherford Alcock acting as first President, and Alfred Dent as Managing Director of the newly-formed North Borneo protectorate.

Sabah became a protectorate of the United Kingdom in 1888 and subsequently became a Crown colony from 1946 until 1963, during which time it was known as Crown Colony of North Borneo. On 16 September 1963, Sabah merged with Malaya, Sarawak and Singapore (left in 1965) to form Malaysia.

From the Charles Lee Moses(1865),to the Hong Kong-based American Trading Company of Borneo, then from the Sultanate Brunei and Sulu, to ODA (Overbeck Dent Associatopn-1877/78) to North Borneo Chartered Company (April 1881), then under the invasion of Japanese(1942-45) and again British annexion (1945-1963),Sabah was changing hand at least five times before get its first sovereign rights through Malaysia in September 16,1963.

How many years our uncles John came here, not that long, officially from 1881 to 1963, it's just around 82 years, oklah.

I am wrong, actually our anchestors did also fought with their blood.

Antanum in Tenom, Pgn Samah in Sandakan,Embo Ali in Kota Belud,Pak Musa in Beaufort, and Mat Salleh did makes the orang putih life difficult.

From last night PMs merdeka speech.

Selamat Hari Merdeka.Jaga Diri Jaga Keluarga.
