Intelectualism in Sabah has long dead.
What is intelectualism? Is a bird,it's a plane, it's superman...that what they say in the Superman movie.
Ya, intelectualism is actually a superman. Not in the sense of being here and there in a blink of an eye to safe a child from being bang by a train, but a speed of mind on how to solve human problems and offer a solution.
Here's Edward.Said say about intelectualism;
“The purpose of the intellectual’s activity is to advance human freedom and knowledge,”
“Intellectuals have been the fathers and mothers of movements, and of course sons and daughters, even nephews an nieces,”
“…but I also want to insist that the intellectual is an individual with a specific public role in society that cannot be reduced simply to being faceless professional, a competent member of a class just going about her/his business,”
“At bottom, the intellectual, in my sense of the word, is neither a pacifier nor a consensus-builder, but someone whose whole being is staked on a critical sense, a sense of being unwilling to accept easy formulas, or ready-made cliches, or the smooth, ever-so-accommocating confirmations of what the powerful or conventional have to say, and what they do. Not just passively unwillingly, but actively willing to say so in public.”

Who are the intelectual?
They can be anyone,or can be even a devil with an evil mind.
An intellectual is a person who engages in critical thinking, research, and reflection to advance discussions of academic subjects. This often involves publishing work for consumption by the general public that adds depth to issues that affect society.
In Sabah, politic produced toxid in Sabahan mind, makes intelectualism dried. We are being poured with problems, corruption,deep state,PTIs,misguided history,keep on changing baju,poverty,pollution,etc.etc,makes our mind running away from being +ve,
Dr.Jeffry in his earlier days,did make some good ideas to strengthen govt. policy and administration, even he created IDS.
Datuk KY Mustapha former SKN with RG, to name a few of our cream of intelectuals in 80s and 90s. Hope with UMS will produce more new breed of intelectuals, produce more fresh ideas for the betterment of Sabahan in all field of knowledge.Think tanks like IDS and SEED and budak-budak The Borneo Comrades, are on their moves, it's good, not to just leave it to the politician, the "average" minded people, who holds the steering,hope they drive carefully and don't drag us to the drain.
Being intelect,is not something that hard, just have a passion in reading good books and article, but the medsos makes our braid lazy,we just want informations not knowledge.Perhaps we shld have a mini library at our hse.
As for Mins of Education, no comment.
